Gundersons CFO & Bookkeeping is a Texas-based accounting and bookkeeping firm serving small businesses and individual clients. We operate with documented processes, high standards, and an uncompromising commitment to accuracy. We are building a team that takes ownership of their work and thrives in a structured, professional environment where quality is the standard, not the goal.
We are hiring a tax preparer who can manage volume, adapt to shifting priorities, and communicate clearly with clients when things get complicated. This is a full-time, in-person role at our Hempstead, TX office, handling individual (1040) and small business returns. You will work directly with walk-in clients as well as an established client base. Tax season runs hard here. You will need to be organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing a portfolio of returns while keeping quality high. If you thrive when there is meaningful work in front of you, and you know how to prioritize without being told, this role is for you.
We use the Predictive Index (PI) behavioral assessment as part of our hiring process. Our ideal tax preparer shifts smoothly when priorities change, because they do, especially in season. You are precise without being rigid, self-directed without going dark, and confident enough to make judgment calls while knowing when to escalate. You build rapport with clients quickly, translate complicated tax situations into plain language, and do not fall apart under deadline pressure. You take ownership of your client files from intake to filing and function well within a team structure without needing constant direction.
Submit your resume along with a brief cover note (3 to 5 sentences) describing the most complex return you have prepared. Tell us what made it complex and how you handled it. An active PTIN is required before the start date. Applications submitted without a cover note will not be reviewed.
